Saving Dried Plants

You may be able to revive dried- out plants if they aren’t too far gone or if the roots haven’t been affected.

Don’t be tempted to give your dried out plant too much water as this can stress the plant and damage tiny roots that are working hard to get established.

Start by moistening the soil close to the stem – little and often to let the water soak into the soil. It may take a few days to get the dried soil to retain the water.

Once the soil remains moist and is no longer dry you can start to fertilize but be careful, fertilize lightly as too much can cause more damage to the plant.

If you have been successful at reviving your dried out plant add some mulch to keep the roots cool and moist.

If the plant has suffered dieback cut this back to the healthy growth. If temperatures are still high leave pruning as even damaged foliage provide protection from intense heat and sunlight
